Personality: disorder or challenge?
To: all managers of services used by people with personality disorders
A flyer advertising the 2006 course to potential participants is about to be sent out. The course builds on the success of this year’s Surrey Sussex Initiative course.
The overall aim of the course is to contribute to improving services in Surrey and Sussex for people with personality disorders by enhancing the knowledge, capabilities and confidence of staff.
A key element of the course is that participants form Local Application Groups (LAGs). These have met regularly in 2005 and have been actively involved in local service developments, including doing research, providing training and supporting ‘interest groups’. Participants on the 2006 course will also form LAGs and link with the 2005 LAGs in contributing to the range of PD service developments taking place in Surrey and Sussex.
The course is popular and places are limited so it is important that you encourage applications from people who are willing and able to take what they learn within the course back to their work settings. It is also important that participants know that they will have your full support in sharing what they learn with colleagues.
The course is designed for staff who do a range of jobs in a variety of settings: mental health and primary health care, social services, addiction, police, probation, prisons, housing, youth, voluntary sector.
The course is part of the Surrey Sussex Initiative and there were no direct participant fees in 2005. Funding is currently being sought for the 2006 course and we will let you know the outcome.
