HPT
Background It has long been recognised that working with this client population can have unique difficulties and problems and professionals often feel ill-equipped to provide an effective service. Isolation and burnout are common. With the recent publication of the Department of Health Policy Implementation Guidance ‘Personality Disorder: No longer a diagnosis of exclusion’ there is a need to find ways of working which are effective for both the service user and those who support and work with them.
Course Description Based on research and evidence of effective practice this course will explore the nature of the problems, their development and maintenance and strategies to manage and improve the situation. The course consists of a series of 10 half-day workshops and aims to build skills in this area through case work discussion, seminars and reflection.
The course has been developed in line with the NIMHE ‘Capabilities Framework – Breaking the cycle of rejection’ document and will be delivered by specialists working within the area, together with input from service users.
Aims of the course:
Ø Provide a theoretical framework to develop an understanding of the problems faced by people with pd
Ø Provide skills and strategies to help deal with the stresses of this work
Ø To review the evidence for psychological treatment
Ø Provide an opportunity to reflect and build awareness of our own attitudes and responses to working in this area.
Ø Provide contact with a wide range of professionals with which to share experiences
Ø Provide further support and the basis for further training
